Budgets, rents, climate, safety and hospital rules for seven Argentine cities, side by side, with a plain note of what the sources do not cover for each one.

Of the three cities with full budgets for one person, Buenos Aires costs the most, and Córdoba and Mendoza cost less. For Rosario, Bariloche, Salta and Mar del Plata, the sources we can cite cover only part of the picture, so this page shows what is known and says plainly what is not.
Planning estimates published in September 2026, with rent and without health cover. Only three of the seven cities have them.

No survey we can cite covers all seven cities. Each figure below comes from a different source and month, and some are for different flat sizes. Use them to get a feel for each city, not to rank them.
Buenos Aires also has a separate market of dollar-priced, company-managed, shorter lets aimed at foreigners. The research does not describe one in the other cities.

Argentina's homicide rate in 2025 was 3.6 per 100,000 people, the lowest on record. Theft is the everyday risk in big cities.
Rosario had a wave of violent crime that peaked in 2023, and homicides have fallen sharply since. The department of Rosario, the administrative area around the city, recorded 47 homicide victims from January to June 2026. Compared with the same months of 2025, the change was -31.9%. Compared with the same months of 2023, the peak year, it was -68.4%. For scale, Rosario had 288 homicides in the whole of 2022. The department still accounted for 59.5% of homicides in Santa Fe province.
We have no crime figures for the cities of Mendoza, Salta, Bariloche or Mar del Plata, and none by neighbourhood for any city.
An August 2026 report names the places that already bill foreigners who are not residents: Salta, Mendoza, Santa Cruz and Jujuy since 2024; Buenos Aires City since March 2025; all with emergency exceptions. Of the seven cities, that covers Buenos Aires City, Mendoza and Salta. The report does not name the provinces that Córdoba, Rosario, Bariloche and Mar del Plata are in.
That does not make every public hospital elsewhere free. Under a 2026 rule, at 5 hospitals run by the national government, every foreigner without permanent residence must show insurance or pay in advance for scheduled care. Only permanent residents use the public system on the same terms as Argentines. Public hospitals now bill non-residents explains what cover you need.

If you apply as a digital nomad from inside Argentina, the filing works like this: In person; in Buenos Aires City by email to DNM; elsewhere at the local DNM delegation. The applicant must be in Argentina..
