What one person spends in Mendoza compared with Buenos Aires, what a flat costs, what the dry climate is like, and why health cover matters more here than in some provinces.

A planning estimate for one person in Mendoza is USD 1,105 a month at the lower end and USD 1,300 at the higher end, which is less than in Buenos Aires. The climate is dry, with hot summers and cold winters, and the province's public hospitals bill foreigners who are not residents.
The estimates above were published in September 2026. They include rent but not health cover. The same source puts Buenos Aires at USD 1,450 outside the centre and USD 1,650 in it.
Other lines from the same source, compiled from crowd-sourced and government data:
| Line | Mendoza | Buenos Aires |
|---|---|---|
| One person's spending a month, before rent | ARS 1,175,508 (about USD 760 at ARS 1,540 on 6 October 2026) | ARS 1,370,869 (about USD 890 at ARS 1,540 on 6 October 2026) |
| A cheap restaurant meal | ARS 16,774 (about USD 11 at ARS 1,540 on 6 October 2026) | ARS 30,497 (about USD 20 at ARS 1,540 on 6 October 2026) |
Utilities for an 85 m² flat in Mendoza came to ARS 205,031 (about USD 130 at ARS 1,540 on 6 October 2026) a month.
Treat every figure here as a starting point for your own budget, not a quote. Is Argentina still cheap? explains what the estimates leave out.
The only Mendoza rent figures we can cite are crowd-sourced, not a survey of listings. In September 2026 a one-bedroom flat was about ARS 801,478 (about USD 520 at ARS 1,540 on 6 October 2026) a month in the centre and ARS 506,681 (about USD 330 at ARS 1,540 on 6 October 2026) outside it.
The national rules on leases apply here as everywhere. Since the rental law was repealed at the end of 2023, landlord and tenant agree the term, the currency and how the rent rises. The most common formula in new leases: Quarterly CPI (IPC); four-monthly and six-monthly also exist.
We found no source on how Mendoza agencies handle guarantees. In Buenos Aires and Bariloche, agencies ask for a garantía propietaria (property guarantee) from someone who owns property, or a paid seguro de caución (rent guarantee insurance). In May 2026 a policy cost 4% to 7% of the total contract value. Renting as a foreigner covers the guarantee in full.
The research has no climate figures for Mendoza itself. The figures below are for San Juan, a nearby city in the same dry Cuyo region, used as a stand-in.
That means hot, sunny summers and cold, dry winters.
Mendoza is one of the places that bill foreigners who are not residents in public hospitals. Its rule is Decree 1266 (Aug 2024).
Tariffs reported in early 2025 put a consultation at ARS 10,000 (about USD 6 at ARS 1,540 on 6 October 2026) and a visit to the emergency room at ARS 63,000 (about USD 41 at ARS 1,540 on 6 October 2026). Prices today may be different. By October 2025 the province had collected about ARS 30,000,000 (about USD 19,480 at ARS 1,540 on 6 October 2026) from 240 foreign patients who were not residents.
The reports do not say exactly who is charged in Mendoza.
National law says emergency care cannot be refused to any foreigner. Mendoza's early-2025 tariffs still list a charge for an emergency-room visit, and the reports do not explain how the two fit together. Only permanent residents use the public system on the same terms as Argentines. Everyone else should plan for health cover that pays for scheduled care. Public hospitals now bill non-residents explains the options.
The research has no crime figures for the city of Mendoza. Nationally, the 2025 homicide rate was 3.6 per 100,000 people, the lowest on record.
