Source: Come Here To Me, Admiral William Brown, 8 Mar 2013, 8 March 2013(opens in a new tab)A bronze statue of William Brown stands on Sir John Rogerson's Quay in Dublin's docklands. The Irish Times reported in July 2006 that two identical bronze statues had been commissioned for the 150th anniversary of his death, and that the Dublin one was to be unveiled on the quay on 28 September 2006. The Come Here To Me history blog says Taoiseach Bertie Ahern unveiled it nearby in September 2006, that the statues were a gift from the Argentine Navy, and that it was moved to its present spot with a new plinth and plaque in August 2012.
The sources do not all agree. The Western People says the naval flagship LÉ Eithne brought a statue home from Argentina in 2007 to be erected in Dublin, whereas the Irish Times and Come Here To Me date the Dublin unveiling to 2006. A 2007 Defence Forces notice, seen only in search results, listed a wreath-laying at the Dublin statue on 22 June 2007 during a visit by the Argentine training ship ARA Libertad. The research describes the statue as a wreath-laying venue.
Brown's death date is also given differently: 3 March 1857 by the Argentine Navy and the Western People, 3 May by Come Here To Me. This site uses the Navy's date. The same blog says Irish was Brown's first language. His 250th birth anniversary falls on 22 June 2027.
