The first full rugby Test between the countries was played at Lansdowne Road on 27 October 1990, Ireland winning 20–18, according to the IRFU. By October 2015 the sides had met 15 times, with Ireland winning ten. The most recent result, from the Six Nations match centre, was Ireland 22–19 Argentina at the Aviva on 15 November 2024. As of October 2026 the next fixture was listed as a Nations Championship match at the Aviva on Friday 6 November 2026; that listing comes from a travel agent's fixture page. The Admiral Brown Cup, created in 2012 by the two embassies, the UAR and the IRFU, is contested between the sides. In rugby, Argentina have never won in Ireland, by Wikipedia's count, which still needs an official source.
In football, the Republic of Ireland and Argentina drew 0–0 at Lansdowne Road on 29 May 1979 before 25,000 in an unofficial international in aid of UNICEF. Diego Maradona came on in the second half and wrote about the game, including a bruise from a Frank Stapleton tackle, in a tour diary for El Gráfico. In August 2010 Argentina won 1–0, with a goal by Ángel Di María, in the first international at the rebuilt Aviva Stadium, Robbie Keane's 100th cap. A results database, seen only in search results, lists further Argentine wins over Ireland in 1951, 1980 and 1998.
