It hosts the Cup of the Argentine Republic, an annual match hosted by Argentina's ambassador. The Irish Field reported that the 11th edition, in September 2018, was won by a team called "Buenos Aires Ireland" over "Cordoba Argentina". The same paper dates Europe's first polo match to Co. Carlow in 1872.
The link runs in both directions. In 2021 Siobhan Herbst of Wicklow and April Kent of Laois were fundraising to take the first Irish ladies' team to the Ladies Polo Open in Buenos Aires; whether they played is unconfirmed. The research found no report of the cup after 2018, so whether it continues each year is unconfirmed, and it does not record the club's visiting arrangements.
