Padre Fidelis Rush · Also known as Fr Fidelis Rush CP, Michael Andrew Rush
Irish link
Irish link: ReportedFidelis Rush, born Michael Andrew Rush, came into the world at Rojas, in Buenos Aires province, on 26 December 1914, to a family from Westmeath and Longford. He was ordained a Passionist at the Retiro San Pablo, near Capitán Sarmiento, on 17 December 1940. All of this comes from a single source, a Buenos Aires provincial bill of the 2009–10 legislative period, which credits him as a precursor of the "irish-celta" music movement in Argentina and of the group Cross & Shamrock, and says he brought traditional music and dance to community gatherings. The research places him in a lineage that runs on to the Comhaltas branch founded in 2007 and the sessions at the Fahy Club.
He died on 15 November 1997, at the Passionists' Retiro Santa Cruz in Buenos Aires, and lies under a Celtic cross at the San Pablo monastery. A 2007 provincial bill describes that complex, near Route 51 between Carmen de Areco and Capitán Sarmiento, as a monastery, the San Patricio church, the San Pablo chapel and college and the order's cemetery, built on land and in buildings donated by Irish immigrant families, and asks that it be preserved as provincial heritage. His family's counties are named but no emigrant ancestor is, so his Irish link is graded as reported rather than documented.
