Irish link: DocumentedEdelmiro Julián Farrell was born on 12 February 1887 at Villa de los Industriales, in Lanús. SILAS records him as the grandson of Matthew Farrell of Co. Longford, which makes his Irish descent documented.
He made his career in the army as a specialist in mountain warfare. He was one of the leaders of the coup of 4 June 1943. In 1944 he became vice-president and then president; SILAS gives his swearing-in as 12 March 1944. He held the presidency until 1946. Juan Perón rose to power within his government. The people register treats Farrell's presidency as the highest office reached by an Irish Argentine, and asks that Perón's rise under him be described in neutral terms.
He died in Buenos Aires on 31 October 1980. This entry rests on a single SILAS biography by Edmundo Murray. The research notes that the swearing-in date should be checked against an official Argentine history page, such as the Casa Rosada's, before it is published as fact.
